Our wellbeing services

Music Therapy

Our music therapy service creates moments of connection between patients and their carers and helps children express complicated emotions and find calm during their hospital stay.

About the service

Music therapy uses the therapeutic power of music to support children's emotional wellbeing. Our trained music therapist works with children and families on wards and in outpatient settings, using specially selected music and instruments to help children and young people process difficult emotions, reduce anxiety, and find moments of peace during their hospital journey.

Who it's for

Music therapy is available to children of all ages and abilities. Whether your child is facing surgery, dealing with a long-term condition, or managing anxiety about procedures, music therapy can help.

How to access it

Music therapy is available to patients on referral from hospital staff. If you'd like to explore music therapy for your child, speak with a member of the team.

What to expect

A music therapy session is tailored to each child and typically lasts around 30 minutes, depending on your child's needs and energy. Your music therapist might play an instrument, encourage your child to play, sing songs together, or simply create a calming musical atmosphere. It's purely about what works for your child.

"During the music therapy sessions, you can see Maeve’s heart rate come down. Even if she's asleep, she can still hear Becca."
