About the service
Children and young people spending weeks or months in hospital deserve to experience the same moments of joy and magic as their peers. Sparkle is a programme that adds a sprinkling of happiness to the lives of young patients. We arrange visits from favourite characters, organise therapy dog visits, plan birthday celebrations, create Christmas magic, and facilitate fun activities and treats. Sparkle shows young patients that, even in hospital, life still hold moments of wonder and delight.
Who it's for
Sparkle activities like therapy dog visits and seasonal events are delivered throughout the hospital for all children, young people and families to enjoy. Where a child or young person is facing a longer stay, the sparkle team can provide additional support such as birthday or ‘going home’ celebrations or external activities that help families bond during their time apart.
How to access it
Sparkle activities and visits are coordinated by the Sparkle team and delivered regularly across the hospital. Together with the ward and medical teams, our sparkle co-ordinators also identify longer term patients who would benefit from some extra support. If your child is spending a long time in hospital, speak with a member of the charity team.
What to expect
Sparkle looks different for every child. It might be a visit from a beloved character or a therapy dog, a special birthday celebration, or surprise treat or activity designed just for them. Every Sparkle moment is planned to bring genuine joy and help children remember that even in hospital, magic can happen.
